About the Homeschool Support Unit (HSU)

The Homeschool Support Unit was established in July 2008 in a partnership between Hope and Asia Educational Resource Consortium (AERC- www.asiaerc.org) in order to:

  • Provide educational support for international Christian workers who are home schooling their children within Cambodia and surrounding nations
  • Provide testing services and educational resources through the AERC Phnom Penh Resource centre
  • Provide access to a range of additional services at Hope that supplement homeschool curriculums (see Services)
  • Encourage other families to consider moving to the provinces for ministry knowing they will be supported in home schooling their children.
  • Build and strengthen the homeschool community

Services Provided

Homeschool Support Unit members may receive the following services upon their registration.

General Membership Services: 

  • Use of AERC Phnom Penh Resource Centre (and mail service for families located outside Phnom Penh)
    • Review textbooks, curriculum, supplementary materials
    • Borrow general TCK and homeschool resources (issues, methods, philosophy, etc.)
    • Borrow supplemental resources and reading materials
  • Curriculum Advisory Services
  • Educational Advice
  • Discounted rates for AERC testing and conferences
  • Discounted rates for membership with the HOPE International School Library

 Additional Support Services:

  • Reviewing student work, ongoing feedback and report cards
  • Home Visits for testing and/or consultation
  • Sports Programs eg. swimming classes (subject to availability)
  • Option to participate in Hope extra-curricular clubs and athletic programs (subject to availability)
  • Participation in HOPE Sports Day
  • Individual music tuition (subject to staff availability)
  • HOPE Special Needs Consultation (subject to Hope staff availability)
  • HOPE Careers Guidance consultation (subject to Hope staff availability)
  • Academic Achievement Testing (eg. Iowa Test of Basic Skills, International Schools Assessment, WIAT, Brigance, Reading & Writing Assessment)
